Impalement

Victim's body penetrated, and the penetrating object remains embedded.

Treating A Victim With An Impaled Object

If the projectile lodges in the body, DO NOT attempt to remove it or to explore the wound. Doing so could result in more bleeding, as sometimes the lodged object serves the purpose of tamponading a broken blood vessel.

impaled object

  • Apply a bandage or dressing, preferably sterile to minimize the risk of infection, but in a pinch, any handkerchief, item of clothing, even a large banana peel will do! Use additional improvised bulky materials/dressings (use the cleanest material available) to build up the area around the object.
  • Apply a supporting bandage over the bulky materials to hold them in place.
