TreatmentThere is no specific treatment for exposure to dirty bombs, other than treatment for blast effect and radiation poisoning. Immediate exposure to radiation from a dirty bomb explosion is generally considered to be non-lethal. If a dirty bomb explodes near by you will not be able to tell whether it's a "dirty", radiologically-charged explosion or a simple charge of high explosive until notified by authorities. If you are not in the immediate vicinity of the blast, simply limit your exposure. If you are outdoors and near or downwind from a blast, get indoors and stay indoors. If you are affected by dust particles from the blast, shower and refrain from eating contaminated food or breathing open air. Keep your windows closed and wait for instructions from Homeland Defense authorities. Next >> |
