Protective Clothing
Basic protective clothing that should be worn when entering or working in a rescue site includes-Long pants, long sleeved shirts, sturdy shoes, work gloves, hard hat, eye protection, dust or surgical mask.
WARNING! Basic protective clothing is NOT adequate protection in areas contaminated with gases, chemicals, flammable liquids, toxic or radioactive materials, all of which require special protective clothing.
Confined Spaces
Entry into confined spaces is one of the most hazardous tasks faced by a rescuer.
- Has limited access because of construction, location or contents.
- Has the capability of developing a buildup of hazardous gas/vapor/dust/fumes, or an oxygen deficient atmosphere.
WARNING! Entering a confined space is extremely dangerous. Even though you may not see a hazard-gases, fumes, or oxidation may have displaced or consumed all available oxygen. Entering a confined space without an air pack (a self-contained breathing apparatus) could result in loss of consciousness and death.
